Cyprus suffers under Erdoğan
Planned cuts in Turkish financial support for the Turkish part of Cyprus have triggered large-scale demonstrations in the northern part of the Cypriot capital Nikosia. This has angered Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, which according to the conservative Greek-Cypriot daily Simerinini reveals the true face of Turkey: "What is happening or will happen in the occupied areas creates ... the right conditions for us to turn to our EU partners and the international community. ... We have proof of the true intentions of Turkey and its dark plans. Now is the time to tell those who claim to be so concerned about the rights of the Turkish Cypriots who are the perpetrators and who are the victims in Cyprus. We should remind them that ... the Turkish occupation is the common enemy of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots alike. ... Turkey, a country on its way to becoming an EU member, should not be allowed to get off scot-free."
