Grigoris Nikolopoulos on conservative Europe
Europe is more conservative than the US and unable to face the challenges of the present, writes columnist Grigoris Nikolopoulos in the daily To Vima: "The major problems Europe faces are directly connected to the ideological system of the ruling conservative governments. They are tied up with immigration, growing social and economic inequalities and pollution of the environment. How can a government or a European Commission that believes in the self-regulation of the markets overcome the economic crisis? … How can such a Europe deal with the wave of immigration if it follows a nationalist logic? How can it reduce pollution and impose the use of renewable energies if it depends on oil companies? Why should [Commission President José Manuel] Barroso and the other conservatives focus on social problems and inequality when their only goal is the prosperity of companies?"
