Kurt Westergaard defends the deputy Geert Wilders
Interviewed by Nanda Troost, the Danish caricaturist Kurt Westergaard fails to understand why several Dutch political figures have called for the Dutch populist Geert Wilders to give up broadcasting his anti-Muslim film 'Fitna'. "No Danish politician would do that. They know that freedom of expression shouldn't be oppressed. Wilders should simply go ahead and broadcast his film. ... In Denmark, we criticise everything: the Queen, politicians, religion. Ten years ago I was accused of blasphemy because I had depicted Jesus descending from the cross dressed in an Armani suit. But nobody threatened me. To launch a debate is one of a paper's duties, and thus one of a caricaturist's. Muslims should accept that."
