German-Polish dispute over expellees museum continues
The newspaper comments on the remarks Erika Steinbach, president of the German Association of Expellees and a very controversial figure in Poland, made last week in the German news magazine Der Spiegel. According to the interview she would not renounce her bid for a seat on the board of the planned Centre against Expulsions in Berlin. "With these words the member of parliament for the CDU has reignited the German-Polish dispute. Instead of trying to pour oil on troubled waters she has added more fuel to the fire. Her remarks were a resounding slap in the face for the Polish government - and particularly for Władysław Bartoszewski. For as Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk's advisor on international affairs it was he who persuaded German Chancellor Angela Merkel that there could be no place for Steinbach on the board that manages the 'Visible Sign' [museum project]."
