Italy pays homage to Primo Levi
Primo Levi, the Italian writer and holocaust survivor committed suicide twenty years ago to the day, on April 11th, 1987. 'If This is a Man', the work of his that bore witness to Auschwitz in 1947, has been translated into thirty or so languages. The journalist and writer Giovanna Favro pays homage to the author. "A burning agony little by little became the heart of his books and the painful knot of his death. It was the anxiety of being neither heard nor believed and being the survivor of a horror that so many succumbed to. It was the torture of having seen the unspeakable and the monstrous, it was the shame carried like a burden for the rest of his life."
