An appeal to open the Heidegger archives

"It is essential that researchers have access to all of the archives pertaining to those individuals who were most compromised by Hitlerism, starting with Marbach's Heidegger archives," writes the philosophy professor Emmanuel Faye. "The Heidegger archives are largely sealed to researchers until 2026, his son Hermann only authorising access to those he deems trustworthy. (...) But some new insights have been provided by an anthology of letters written to his wife, Elfride. They are damning. They betray just how radically antisemitic and racist Heidegger had already become from 1910 on. (...) We issue an earnest appeal to the German and European authorities to ensure that the right to historical and philosophic truth is at long last guaranteed and that, 60 years after the demise of the Nazi regime, these archives be opened to all researchers."
