A game of nerves in the Caucasus

The daily Eesti Päevaleht believes there is still potential for conflict in the Caucasus: "Only a few weeks ago there were a number of reports from South Ossetia and Abkhazia in the Russian media that Georgia was rearming and planning 'new provocations'. From the Russian side [the reports] were accompanied by claims that Georgia was providing support for radical Islamists and terrorists operating in the North Caucasus. … Time is working against Russia and Moscow knows this. Without the instability and insecurity generated by external pressure Georgia will sooner or later resolve its internal conflicts and in this case Russia will have lost its five-year battle [Georgia's Rose Revolution took place in 2004]. This means the game of nerves will continue."
