Les Echos
The business paper Les Echos was founded by the French journalist Emile Servan-Schreiber and his brother Robert in 1880 as a monthly paper called Les Echos de l’Exportation. Only in 1908 did it become a daily and shorten its name to Les Echos. The British media group Pearson, which also owns the Financial Times, bought the paper in 1988. Following complicated negotiations Les Echos was sold in 2007 to the LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton group, the world's leading producer of luxury goods. Also in 2007 Les Echos launched its e-paper and began charging a fee for access. It is reputedly the first e-paper in the world to charge fees for its online edition.
