Dorota Jarecka reviews the "Design PL" exhibition at Warsaw's Academy of Fine Arts which forms part of the CUMULUS design conference. On show are students' works and industrial products. Jarecka writes: "Poor, ugly Poland is paradoxically a country that loves luxury furniture, as this exhibition demonstrates. Armchairs and sofas make up the bulk of the furniture at the exhibition. Interestingly enough, there are no beds. Furniture design here is not concerned with living, it's all about show." However, there's a huge gulf between the furniture designs and what actually goes into production. "Being a designer in Poland means saying goodbye to your dreams."
