Jesus as king of Poland
Catholics in Poland revere the Virgin Mary as "Queen of Poland," because according to legend she helped the country in its fight against Swedish occupation 350 years ago in Czestochowa. Now, 46 parliamentarians from the majority parties PiS and LPR as well as the opposition farmers' party PSL have joined ranks in their call for Jesus Christ to be declared "King of Poland." Jan Turnau responds with irony: "Fine, let Christ be crowned King of Poland. But it would be advisable to discuss it with him first. We do not know what he might say. Maybe even: 'Forget that nonsense! Don't pull me down into your Sodom and Gomorrah! Look in the Gospel where I clearly said: Render unto Caesar what belongs to Caesar and unto God what belongs to God. I am not an emperor and even if I were a king, I would say clearly that my kingdom is not on this Earth...' Maybe Jesus would give a different reply. I do not know, but we should surely ask him!"
