Slovenians celebrate the euro

"Monday was a day that made history," comments Miha Jenko on yesterday's celebration of the euro introduction in Ljubljana, in which some important European Union representatives participated. "The euro introduction by this small, stubborn and macro-economically successful nation of two million shows that the Euro-club is open to all those who consistently fulfil the Maastricht criteria. Incidentally, established EU members regularly abuse these criteria, but that's another story. The success of Slovenia sets an example for the Baltic countries, for Cyprus, Malta, Hungary, Slovakia and the others. It shows that it pays to persevere on the route to the euro."
