Free entry to the National Gallery in Prague?
The head of Prague's National Gallery, Milan Knizak, has recommended granting free access to the treasures of the museum, based on the foreign model. Petr Fischer, editor of the paper's cultural section, strongly supports this decision: "No sooner had Knizak made his recommendation public, when he was charged with populism. Yet he is proceeding with total pragmatism. The ten million crowns in annual entrance fees are to be dropped from the budget. That loss would at least partly be covered by the fact that more people would come and buy catalogues or other things. This is exactly the principle according to which galleries in Great Britain have functioned for years. Whenever you go there, the galleries are full. The British are among the most diligent museumgoers in the EU. There is no reason why this principle shouldn't function in the Czech Republic as well."
