Vladimir Putin's own adviser Andrey Illarionov has resigned in protest at Putin's economic policies. Moscow correspondent Peter Fischer sums up Illarionov's position saying that over the last few years Russia had become a restricted corporate country which he felt he could no longer represent. "Talking to this newspaper, he had already said in April this year that the Yukos affair and Khodorkovsky's trial were sending the wrong message. He had also warned about a 'Venezuelisation' of Russia. According to Illarionov, Russia is becoming fixated on the nationalisation of the raw materials sector and a corrupt state system – a path trodden by Latin American countries and which could lead to Russia ending up as a third-world country."
