Airbus shareholders set a bad example for employees

This February 28th, the European aircraft manufacturer is due to present its redevelopment plan named 'Power8' which is bound to entail the suppression of jobs in France and Germany. Gilles Sengès fears a break-down of relations between employees and shareholders. "How to explain that what is negotiable with shareholders is not with unions? The German management at EADS [Airbus's mother company] who resorted to a kind of black-mail to forcibly obtain concessions in favour of their factories have not made things any easier for Louis Gallois, the president of Airbus who has to present the new version of the manufacturer's redevelopment plan today. There are better examples to set employees who for months have been told time and time again that the efforts demanded are necessary for the survival of Airbus ... . Shareholders should not be surprised by a harshened tone from social partners, some of whom are already promising 'fireworks' if not a 'declaration of war'."
