The liberalisation of the energy market
The editorialist Pascal Aubert denounces the European Commission's desire to accelerate the liberalisation of the energy market in Europe. "The big energy providers who are in no hurry to share, the states and, most of all, public opinion, all seem far from convinced by the arguments advanced in Brussels in defence of the benefits of the liberalisation supposed to encourage competition and decrease prices. ... For one reason or another, there has been a notable rise in the price of gas and electricity wherever the energy market has already been totally opened up, . ... The Brussels Commission seems to be confusing speed with precipitation. By choosing the wrong time to carry forward a good cause, the commission is running the risk of seeing those it is supposed to serve, the consumers, gang up against it."
