The European Constitution
Commentator Konrad Niklewicz says it's wrong to declare the European constitution dead. "Those who oppose the constitution are focusing on its rejection in France and the Netherlands and forgetting that the great majority of EU states accepted it. Why should the Spanish, who said yes to it, be less important than the French who said no? Is Luxembourg less important than the Netherlands? The parliament of the Belgian kingdom will soon complete the process of ratifying the constitution. Nobody expects the document to be presented to voters again as it was when the French and the Dutch rejected it. Changes are necessary. Perhaps it should even be rewritten? Or trimmed down? There are different ideas as to what should be done to it – and they must be discussed."
