Italy legalises self-defence
The Italian parliament adopted a law on Tuesday, January 24 authorising the right to self-defence. The editorial writer Vittorio Zucconi is scathing about this resolution. "Hats off to those bandits from the Northern League thanks to whom, in the shadow of the American constitution that guarantees the right to bear arms, self-defense has entered the statute books. ... This electoral demagoguery out of a spaghetti western brings us to the brink of a terrifying abyss. Let us consider the United States: according to the FBI, a father is 22 times more likely to accidentally kill his wife or child, than a delinquent. And according to the US media, nine children die every day because daddy owns a Colt 45. Seventeen thousand people commit suicide every year using a pistol, the favourite weapon of males, who find the cold feel of the metal comforting."
