The new map of the global economy
Pierre Veya, the daily's editor-in-chief, devotes an editorial to the growing weight of developing countries in the global economy. "This new economic geography of the world is obviously raising concerns, all the more so since the ageing industrialised countries are scared, petrified with fear by the (false) notion that the increasing wealth of some countries comes at the expense of others. The following cannot be reiterated enough: the growing dynamism of China or India does not feed off our decline. ... Asia's vitality is good news, a source of wealth. Have we considered the fact that Europe exports two times as many goods to Asia than to the United States or Japan? What we should be worried about, on the other hand, are the political - and by extension, economic - dangers posed by Asia's effervescence."
