The 'Bomeleer' story is resurfacing in Luxemburg
In a press conference on November 25th, the Luxemburg public prosecutor charged two policemen as guilty for a mysterious series of 18 bomb attacks in Luxemburg between 1985 and 1986. Laurent Moyse deplores the hyped-up media coverage of the 'Bommeleer' (Bomber) case which has been keeping the Grand Duchy on tenterhooks for 20 years. "This progress in the inquiry does nothing to change the fact that the justice system struggled with the dossier. The fact that members of the police force are under suspicion does not of course facilitate the work of the investigators. Nonetheless, there is good reason to raise eyebrows when the justice system depends on television to shed light on whole sections of this sombre affair. This does indeed show that the media play a fundamental role in our democratic society, but it also gives a very clear indication of the weaknesses in the justice system."
