Estonia's foreign policy
Former Finnish Prime Minister Paavo Lipponen caused a stir at a seminar held in the Estonian capital of Tallinn when he called Estonia's close ties with Georgia and Ukraine into question. Björn Mansson comments on Estonia's foreign policy: "Naturally Estonia is free to choose its own course. But in the name of intellectual honesty this should be done openly, and above all it should be aimed at promoting good neighbourly relations. Estonia's games with certain neighbours of Russia who unlike Estonia are not EU or NATO members do seem, with all due respect, a little audacious. Aren't relations with Russia more important?"
