Order plans to reform Radio Maryja
Pater Ryszard Bozek, the new national head of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer in Poland, announced in an interview with the newspaper that he intends to reform the controversial church-run Radio Maryja. The order owns the broadcasting license for the radio programme. Jan Turnau is pleasantly surprised: "For the first time, the Polish superiors of the order have spoken critically about [station head] Pater Tadeusz Rydzyk and his rule over the station based in Toruń. Even considering his resignation is an event in itself. To date, the bishops did not call a spade a spade, and the Redemptorists backed Rydzyk staunchly and ignored the bishops. Of course, it will be no mean feat to tame a leader who is so talented in deflecting criticism, even if it comes from the Vatican... But this time, the criticism came directly from the order, and from the mouth of no one less than the radio director's immediate superior. Perhaps Pater Bożek will now move this bulwark of world hatred."
