The EU's energy supply strategy
EU energy ministers are meeting in Brussels to discuss a European energy strategy on March 14. While the Polish government, using the catchword "Energy NATO", calls for the formation of a new solidarity alliance, the Green Book passed by the European Commission on March 8 provides for less drastic measures. Konrad Niklewicz favours the European Commission's approach. "There's no need for a new institution. What Europe needs now is a project that all members of the community support and can implement. The European Union is already having to contend with the divisive effects of different 'nationalisms'. A moderate energy policy which is acceptable to all members could strengthen the EU and give it time to recuperate."
