The Vatican turns against Radio Maryja
The Vatican has called on the Polish Church to take decisive steps against the radio station Radio Maryja, that had expressed anti-Semitic views. One of the groups with close ties to the radio station has reacted with anti-German slogans and claims that Polish Pope John Paul II had held his protecting hand over the station, unlike his German successor Benedict XVI. Jan Turnau criticises the group, which calls itself the "independent team for media ethics”. "This raises the question of whether the patrons of Radio Maryja think that all popes should be obeyed – with the exception of German popes. This is a view that may be justified within a democracy, but it's not a Roman Catholic view.”
