The future of the EU

In an interview with Michal Havran jr, former Polish foreign minister and member of the European Parliament Bronislaw Geremek says he endorses further EU enlargement: "Nobody has the right to tell Ukrainians they're not part of Europe. The EU treaties stipulate that all European countries have the right to apply for EU membership, and Belarus and Ukraine are European countries. To have Turkey in the EU would be also be positive for geopolitical reasons. However, the accession of new states can only be carried through once we have adopted a European constitution. This is also a prerequisite to developing a joint foreign and security policy."
