A crisis is announced

The daily Delo criticises EU policy and the fact that it takes a tragedy for public attention to focus on the fate of African refugees on the island of Lampedusa: "The Italian and European policies ... have once again made Lampedusa a repository for Africans. They want to build another camp - in the past they were called concentration camps - so that Europe and the tourists aren't bothered by the new arrivals. The refugees wait in the camp until they're deported. ... But only Egypt takes back its citizens. There's nowhere to send the others; they don't even have papers. There are many more Lampedusas in the Mediterranean or on the Spanish islands in the Atlantic. We only hear of them when a tragedy occurs. ... Otherwise we act as if we couldn't see or hear them. We have our own worries. There's a crisis and we have no time to think about how all our destinies are entwined and that poor boat refugees are part of our world."
