Domingos Amaral on the need to help Obama

US President Barack Obama is no superhero, Domingos Amaral writes in the daily Correio da Manhã, and therefore needs the support of other presidents and governments to solve the global problems: "Everyone is looking to heaven and waiting for salvation. Billions of people want US President Barack Obama to be the new Captain America and put an end to all wars, the economic crisis and global warming. ... But will Captain America be able to save the world? For instance the economy? Does he have the miracle cure? More state investment is important, but the crucial problem, the great black hole that is sucking in international banks, still needs to be patched up. And what about the environment? Can Captain America stop the CO2 emissions and the ice from melting in the North Pole? In this case, too, there are no magic solutions, but there are measures that can be taken. And what about the wars? Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Lebanon, Israel, Palestine ... . These parts of the world have been in conflict for at least a hundred years. Captain America will try, but he must be cautious. In Afghanistan the English and the Soviet empires have been beaten in the past. ... I don't believe Captain America will be capable of accomplishing so much all at the same time. Other superheroes - Asian, Jewish or Muslim - would be welcome. Perhaps then things would be easier."
