Disarming people's minds
The Catholic paper La Croix voices surprise that international reactions have not been more supportive of the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court in The Hague against Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir: "This shows just how fragile the idea of international justice still is. ... Concerning the court's credibility it must be stressed in the case of Sudan that the accusation of genocide against Omar al-Bashir has been dropped. ... This attests that international justice is not guided by slogans but by a scrupulous search for truth. The day has yet to come when the political or military leader of a major power stands trial. This step will be necessary for international tribunals to acquire full legitimacy and amply contribute to lasting peace. Because to stop a war it's not enough to silence the weapons, you must also disarm people's minds."
