Ákos Szilágyi on Holocaust denial

Poet and essayist Ákos Szilágyi reflects in the daily Népszabadság on the mentality that denies the Holocaust: "If someone is robbed of his human, civic and personal dignity after Auschwitz, this is tantamount to robbing him of his life. Therefore he who denies Auschwitz is denying the world after Auschwitz, which also means that he … is willing to repeat Auschwitz. All this is not merely speculation based on logical conclusions. Its basis is the catastrophic historical experience that shook Europe to its very foundations. … The Auschwitz lie, or in other words, the erasure of that pitch-black planet called Auschwitz from Europe's historical heavens is nothing other than a step towards the infernal possibilities that lie dormant in our culture."
