Politicians stay away from Gay Parade
Bucharest's annual Gay Parade took place on Saturday, but no Romanian politicians dared to take part, the daily Evenimentul Zilei complains: "Romanian politicians are tolerant. But not a single one walked alongside the ambassadors from the UK, the Netherlands, Sweden and the Czech Republic in the march for diversity and tolerance. Not a single Romanian Member of the European Parliament joined the three MEPs who'd come to Bucharest especially to support the demands of the homosexual community, above all their wish for a law on same-sex partnerships. Several Liberals and Social Democrats have voted in the European Parliament along with their party colleagues for the resolution put forward by [Italian MEP] Giusto Catania on legal harmonisation for same-sex marriages. This double standard shows that no politicians are willing to put their election standings at risk. ... It's more profitable to go with the flow and bribe voters than to march in support of a disdained minority."
