A return of labour migrants?

Analysts and entrepreneurs have noted in the UK that the acute recession in the country is leading Eastern European labour migrants to return home. The daily Evenimentul Zilei worries whether Romania is ready for their return: "The opportunities are drying up [in Britain], while the growing dynamism of the economies at home are encouraging thousands of Poles, Czechs and Balts to return. For the most part, the economic migrants from Romania work in sectors badly hit by the crisis. Spain and Italy too are starting to feel the shock of the recession, and could suffer enormously. It could well be that thousands of 'strawberry pickers' [as Romanian migrants are known] could wend their way homewards. ... And it is by no means certain whether Romania is ready for so many labourers. ... Against the background of the crisis .. the lack of serious discussion and fresh ideas to prepare the economy for the post-crisis period is increasingly worrying."
