Blair is the wrong man for EU president
Once the Lisbon Treaty has been ratified all over Europe the EU must create the post of EU president. The left-leaning daily Dnevnik writes that former British prime minister Tony Blair would be the wrong candidate for the job: "The Lisbon Treaty is flexible enough in content to allow for several different solutions in practice. It was similar with the US constitution. The goal was a parliamentary democracy, but it wasn't strong enough to prevent George Washington and later Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Roosevelt from using their beguiling charisma to turn it into more of a presidential democracy. It can't be denied that Blair knows how to take centre stage and to make everything revolve around him. If his morals were equally strong - instead of being the hypocrite he is - he could inject the necessary vigour into the EU ahead of the planned enlargement. But as things stand he can only pave the way for egocentric European state leaders who suffer from a Napoleon complex, like his great backer Nicolas Sarkozy."
