Volkswagen takeover good for Porsche

The daily Delo sees the cooperation between carmakers Porsche and Volkswagen as a positive development in the long term: "In times when companies are having to invest billions in the development of future technologies, a small carmaker like Porsche (which produces some 100,000 cars a year) would have a hard time surviving the tough competition in a branch in which just a select few have huge production facilities worldwide, because the smaller companies can't invest in development themselves. … Moreover Opel's fate is hanging like the sword of Damocles over Germany given that the negotiations on new investors are still far from being concluded. And generous state subsidies for the purchase of a new car will only postpone the true impact of the crisis on the car industry as a whole. … Volkswagen is hedging its bets on growing markets like China, where it is estimated that the number of cars will triple by 2020. The union between Porsche and Volkswagen is meant to be a step on the path towards a new golden era after the crisis."
