Poland - a family business
The concentration of power in the hands of the Polish Kaczynski brothers raises a number of questions, writes Jan Rybar, commenting on the most recent turn of events in Poland. "The new prime minister, Jaroslaw Kaczynki, always stressed that he didn't want to be head of government while his brother was president because this wouldn't be good for Poland's democracy or image. Now he's changed his mind... This affects us too. The course that the Polish ship is steering in European and international policy will have an impact on Central Europe as a whole. A lot more depends on the fate of Poland's forty million inhabitants than, for example, on what has been happening in Slovakia since the elections there. That's trivial compared to Poland.
