Lech Wałęsa on the upcoming Irish referendum
On Friday October 2 the Irish will vote in a second referendum on the Treaty of Lisbon. Polish politician and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Lech Wałęsa takes up the cudgels for the Treaty in the tabloid Fakt: "The document on which the Irish go to the polls is not outstanding. But even if you doubt its effectiveness, it will never pay off to remain aloof from the process of European integration. If you're not part of things, you'll simply be completely at a loss. Only those who are actively participating in constructing a better Europe can influence this process. In other words: sometimes it's worthwhile to be part of certain processes and integrated in certain structures, notwithstanding any concerns or fears you may have."
