Crisis of the system in Romania
With the presidential elections in Romania only two months away the coalition between the Liberal Democrats (PD-L) and the Social Democrats (PSD) is on the verge of collapse. On Tuesday PSD boss Mircea Geoana stressed that all PSD ministers would resign if Prime Minister Emil Boc dismissed the PSD Minister of the Interior Dan Nica, whom the Liberal Democrats hold responsible for the rising level of crime in the country. The daily Cotidianul comments: "Endless scandals, open corruption, unfulfilled promises, widespread election fraud. All these are signs of a crisis of the system and are also the reasons why cynicism has become so prevalent. … But what if the politicians themselves have fallen victims to the general cynicism? The visible asymmetry between moral and political cynicism does not reinforce such a view, because from the point of view of the moral cynicism so many people practice, politics and morals couldn't be more disparate. Politics has to do with the community; morals are a matter for individuals. Economic cynicism, however, can also have political consequences."
