Klaus cares most about Klaus
The daily Sme writes that the Eurosceptic Czech President Václav Klaus is right to criticise the Treaty of Lisbon, but that his credibility suffers from his egocentric motives: "The president has always liked being the focus of attention and loves to portray himself as a courageous dissident who swims against the current, a sort of highly principled politician and convinced conservative democrat. On closer inspection, however, this carefully polished image is extremely tarnished. Klaus has always been more of an oligarch than a democrat. In his view the affairs of the Czech Republic should be decided by a small political and economic elite. ... The real problem for Klaus isn't as he claims the centralisation of power in Brussels, but the fact that [with the Treaty of Lisbon] Czech politicians - first and foremost Klaus himself - will be stripped of some of their power."
