Italian regicide?
Italian Minister of Economy and Finance Giulio Tremonti has come out strongly in favour of fixed terms of employment, openly criticising job mobility. The liberal daily La Stampa writes that with these statements Tremonti has upped his profile: "The minister could be warming up the motors for the post-Berlusconi era. True, we don't know if Giulio Tremonti ... said these words so as to cross a very personal Rubicon. Nevertheless in the eyes of the Prime Minister the step makes him a full-blooded member of the circle of 'conspirators' of whom one must be wary. This is not entirely a new situation for Giulio Tremonti, people will say. True enough. But perhaps the current situation is new. ... Could it be that in these not unturbulent times Giulio Tremonti too is reflecting on who will lead the country in the future?"
