Orthodox Church finally accepts women

This year for the first time women can be elected to the National Assembly of the Romanian Orthodox Church. The Assembly decides among other things on the yearly budget for the different dioceses. The daily Evenimentul  Zilei praises the move to include women: "Despite this regulation there are priests who deny women this choice because of the hostility towards women that still exists in our Orthodox Church, whether we think it's a good thing or not. It must be said clearly that there are priests who to this day haven't read the changed statute because they believe they already know it all or are simply not interested, which is hard to understand. Dear holy men, women now have the right to participate in the decisions of the dioceses. There is no such thing as second-class believers. Everyone is equal before God. The participation of women in the administrative decisions of the Church is a remarkable new development."
