Belgian train accident predictable
According to official accounts at least 18 people died and over 100 were wounded in a train accident near Brussels on Monday. Responsiblity may well lie with the Belgian train company SNCB, writes the daily Le Soir: "Yves Leterme is right, we must remain calm. Before we get up in arms and start pointing fingers at those responsible, we must await the results of the investigation. ... Now it's Luc Lallemand, director of (train infrastructure company) Infrabel, who is pointing the finger. If he is right the SNCB is to blame for the accident, because even ten years after the Pecrot catastrophe they still haven't implemented the security requirements recommended by experts at the time. If that's the case ... it's impossible to remain calm."
