Solidarity with Swiss in the Visa dispute
After Switzerland decided to refuse entry to the Schengen zone to a large number of top Libyan officials, including the Gaddafi family, in retaliation for two Swiss businessmen being held hostage in Libya, the Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has now banned people from the Schengen zone from entering his country. According to the Neue Zürcher Zeitung this situation demands solidarity among members of the Schengen area: "The diverse EU bodies as well as several member states have now intervened to try to defuse the dispute - and could thus be forced to take action against the root of the problem. The prerequisite for a successful mediation of the EU or the more influential member states is that solidarity among the Schengen countries prevails. Switzerland is quite rightly appealing to this solidarity with legal arguments. However it must be aware that if you demand solidarity, you also have to give it."
