Mário Soares on Obama's political triumphs

Portugal's former head of state Mário Soares praises US President Barack Obama's healthcare reform and his efforts towards nuclear disarmament: "We could hear it once more: 'Yes, we can!' Not only in the US, but all over the world. It was a victory for the progressive forces who defend moral values, ... solidarity and humaneness, and believe the world can be a better place. ... As some newspaper wrote: 'Obama went down in the annals of history.' Not because he held a speech but because he acted, and this healthcare reform opens up a path for millions of Americans that liberates them from the fear they won't get treatment if they don't have any money. ... Obama is unstoppable. ... He reached an agreement with Russia that was a significant step towards reducing the nuclear weapons production of the two countries. ... This was very important and another signal to the world."
