Austria also needs a bank tax
The liberal-conservative coalition in Germany on Wednesday agreed on a bank tax which according to the daily Die Presse should serve as a model for other countries: "This is all the more important considering that the politicians of other states have long since sunk into a state of chaos despite all their pompous announcements - in Austria for example. That, on the other hand, is hardly surprising. Here in Austria the government has asked the banks to agree on how they would like to be regulated. A truly original approach. This is like asking the Christmas turkey whether it thinks Christmas day is the best day of the year and at what temperature it wants to be roasted. Austria's fetish for consensus seems to know no limits. But who knows, perhaps the decision in Germany will remind the grand coalition in Vienna that governing and moderating are not really the same thing."
