Polish politics facing change
Central Europe expert Martin Ehl asks in the business paper Hospodářské noviny how the Smolensk tragedy will change Polish politics, noting that even the Polish don't know what to do next: "Will the campaign ahead of the presidential elections be less ugly? Will the media hold back with their attacks on Jarosław Kaczyński, the brother of the deceased president? Will the Polish journalists write in the same way they did before and not mince their words? One of my friends, an influential commentator, said to me that public debate will no longer be what it was. Another colleague, chief editor of a financial portal, wrote to me saying that even on Monday he still hadn't grasped the enormity of what had transpired. At present the Poles don't even know how and when they will be able to recover from their loss."
