Shanghai Expo a communist propaganda show
The World Expo in Shanghai will open on May 1. The event is among other things an instrument of political propaganda, writes the daily Le Temps: "Thousands of skyscrapers, the fastest trains, gleaming, ultra-modern airports, new motorways. Shanghai has been lining up one top performance after the next on the march toward this Expo of superlatives. This universal exhibition is an important step in the country's opening to the world. However it is also a show, a 'communist' propaganda message to consolidate China's new, central position of dominance. ... Shanghai is more open and more modern than the rest of the country, but it is nonetheless composed of the same DNA, that of authoritarian, politically inflexible capitalism."
