US addicted to oil
One reason for the catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico is the US's dependency on oil, writes the left-liberal daily Libération: "It must be said, America is an oil addict. The country where the car is king and the truck is triumphant. For America the motorised vehicle is a metaphor for freedom. And like any toxicomania, oil dependency is subject to side effects and overdoses. Of course, the private multinationals that push the oil drug are inclined to limit security expenses in the name of profit. Oil addiction and an obsession with profitability: that's why your Gulf is polluted."
