Young Czechs demonstrate democratic maturity
The left-liberal daily Süddeutsche Zeitung describes the Czech Republic's parliamentary elections as a mature democratic performance: "The voters have sent a clear message to all the parties across the board. They want genuine reforms. They want an end to corruption. ... And it is above all the young generation that has intervened with this emphatic demand. ... The popular former TV presenter Radek John was elected because he made a name for himself as a campaigner against corruption and wants to do it better than the political dinosaurs. This is now the commitment and the agenda. The triumph of Prince Schwarzenberg and his conservative-liberal TOP 09 party shows even more clearly what the people want. Schwarzenberg has announced sacrifices and cuts and in his old-fashioned way he vouches for a new style. This has brought results, particularly with the young."
