Europe needs an economic government
Although Europe's finance ministers have taken sensible decisions on controlling national budgets, what Europe really needs is a genuine economic government, writes the conservative daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna: "The countries of Europe agreed on a common currency, but each continues determining its expenditures for itself although the reliability of the common currency hangs in the balance. The Greek crisis has shown that this construction cannot survive the test of time. Germany's taxpayers were forced to bail out Greece although Berlin doesn't have the slightest influence on expenditures in Athens, which were the cause of the catastrophe. After years of debate on the European constitution and the Treaty of Lisbon Europe is weary of reform. Nevertheless there is another option: Europe must jump in the deep end and set up something akin to a European economic government."
