Kaczyński win poses threat for government
An election victory for conservative presidential candidate Jarosław Kaczyński in the runoff vote on July 4 could jeopardise Prime Minister Donald Tusk's policies, writes the daily Süddeutsche Zeitung: "Kaczyński, who hopes to succeed his twin brother who died in the Smolensk plane crash, can count on the backing of highly motivated supporters. The colourless Komorowski on the other hand inspires little enthusiasm. His substantial share of the vote is more the result of an anti-Kaczyński reaction than partiality for him personally: those who want to prevent Kaczyński from winning vote for Komorowski. ... A Kaczynski victory in the runoff on July 4 would hinder or even block Poland's further integration into EU structures. He would also use his veto against key points of Tusk's ambitious reform programme. So in the medium term a defeat for Komorowski would also mean the demise of reformer Tusk."
