Obama picks up the pieces
The announced withdrawal of US troops comes too soon, writes the liberal daily Mladá fronta Dnes: "The Americans' announcement says that everything is all right in Iraq, but the truth looks different. July saw the most casualties there since two years. The violence is escalating. George W. Bush also once declared the end of the military operation. We all know how that ended. There is no victor in Iraq and there never will be. There is a temporary success that makes it possible to Iraqify the war, just as the Vietnam war was unsuccessfully Vietnamised in its time. ... Obama is picking up the pieces left by another. ... America is leaving behind an uncompleted task."
