Medvedev a disaster for democracy

During a political forum held in the city of Yaroslavl on Friday, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev termed any plans to turn the state into a parliamentary democracy a disaster. Edvin Sugarev voices his concerns at the president's words on the portal Svobodata: "It sounds shocking, doesn't it? Nevertheless as far the Kremlin leadership views its present situation and future, and consequently also the future of the country, it also sounds conclusive. There will be no parliamentary democracy because that would be a catastrophe. In other words: long live autocracy! In any event there's no point imagining that the castration of parliamentary democracy can offer new perspectives for the future. Both politically and economically the authoritarian power regime is part and parcel of the Russian reality."
